“The blossoms are really heavy. The bees have been working overtime,” said George Stanislowsky in May about this year’s crop of blueberries on Eagles View Farm in Galway.

Weather dictates flavor, but with cool nights and warm days, their 2,500 bushes will likely ripen around July 4th and keep producing big, plump blueberries until mid-August. The farm is bursting with freshness and fun, and people have been coming here to enjoy their five varieties of pick-your-own blueberries for decades. There are small sweet ones, and huge, quarter-sized goliaths with a delicate tartness that delights the tastebuds.

Forty-one years ago, George, a pilot, and his wife, Sandy, a swim coach, started Eagles View Farm with 500 blueberry bushes to teach their two daughters, Michelle and Stephanie, about responsibility and good work ethics. Through the years, Eagles View Farm attended area farmers’ markets and sold their juicy berries to local establishments (including The Gideon Putnam in Saratoga Springs). Both girls helped run the farm stand while they were growing up and now Stephanie is an Aviation Safety Inspector and Michelle is the founder of Burlingame Orthodontics in Ballston Spa. Last year, Michelle’s two daughters, Leah, 11, and Eloise, 9, became the third generation to tend to the summertime stand, helping visitors take home bucketfuls of sunshine.

On July 25th, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., find Eagles View Farm at the Town of Galway’s Annual Blueberry Festival, at Dockstader Recreational Park, 5078 Sacandaga Road, rain or shine. It is free to attend and will include crafts, blueberry bushes, products, and more.

Eagles View Farm, 2089 Route 29, Galway will be open Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, 8 – 11 a.m. (please note – dew makes the area damp in the early morning hours). Parking is close to the grassy blueberry field and handled picking buckets are provided.
